Push-ups! What a great exercise to use to help build upper body strength AND it takes no equipment… just you. This movement, however, can be performed in a lot of different ways to help change up the variety of your workouts or to be modified for your fitness level or ability. It is important to note that even when doing one of these modifications, the base movement of the push-up should still look very much the same. Our proper form should be there to help minimize the risk of injury and help us maximize the benefits of this great movement!
This video is a part of our movement tip series. These videos will help you continue to work on form and technique so that you’re getting the most out of the movements. We discuss all these tips in our classes, but sometimes focusing on one exercise at a time can help us fine tune even more.
Tips for Perfect Push-Ups
- Hands should be placed underneath your shoulders
- Keep elbows pointed back during the movement; not flared out to the sides
- In any variety of the movement, your back should be straight and abs engaged
- Lower down to touch chest to the ground and push-up fully extending your arms; don’t cheat that range of motion
